We’re down to the final days. 2011 is coming to a close. Honestly, there will always be those goals to be more financially stable, eat healthier, exercise more, etc. so I don’t really have any desire to get into the details of all of that. But here are some specific goals I’ve come up with for 2012:

1. Run Streak — OK, kind of. In 2011, I ran 137 miles (so far…). The goal will be to run a minimum of a mile a day in 2012 equaling 366 miles (leap year!). I loved doing this as part of the #RWRunStreak for the couple weeks I got in. However, I know and understand that life and things kind of get in the way sometimes (ugh sinus infection) so if I miss a day or something, it happens. Either way, I’m shooting for 366 total for the year. It sounds like a lot compared to what I ran this year, but think about it. In February 2011, I couldn’t even run a mile straight through let alone running 5K or the 5-miler Turkey Trot. Now I can get ready, run my mile and be back home in 15-20 minutes. A mile a day is definitely attainable.

2. Run a half marathon — In fact, I’m already registered for the Cap City Half. I am SO. EXCITED. I’m looking forward to training for this, and my mile a day goal will help push me out the door on days when I’m lacking motivation.

3. Geocache more — In 2011, I only found 10 caches not including events I attended. That is so pathetic. So let’s set a goal for 117 caches for 2012. That’s an obscure number, but it’ll take me to my #500 milestone I’m taking a long time to get there, but it’s not about the numbers, right?

Aside from those small goals, my resolution is to enjoy 2012 as much as I enjoyed 2011 because over all this year has been awesome!

After 4 years of geocaching, I’ve finally attended my first Mega event: Geowoodstock IX. I even dragged mom aka DeeDee44425, Vixen (my puppy), Lisa and Chelsea along. Honestly, I wasn’t all that impressed with the event. I’m not too much into the games and seminars so we didn’t even bother with those. After the games and seminars, all that was left was the vendors who sponsored the event. Maybe it would have been more fun had we camped overnight. Maybe it also would have been more fun if either of our GPS units would pick up a satellite. Not. Kidding.

Lisa and Chelsea had never been geocaching. So I really wanted to pick a variety of caches to show them what it was about and make a day of it. We started our day out by going to Auto Art, a virtual in Erie, PA along the route to GWIX. It doesn’t get much better than that for your first cache — that’s for sure! Their second find was GWIX. Neither find required a GPS (Although I did use my TomTom to give us turn-by-turn directions to both).

When we got there, the check-in line was really long but it moved quickly. I was also really impressed with the logbook displayed at the entrance.

Geowoodstock IX Logbook

My next plan of attack was a t-shirt. That line didn’t move so quickly, but I wanted an event t-shirt. When we got to the counter, the only t-shirts they had left in my size were either white (NOT happening) or the trackable event shirt ($5 more than the generic). So I chose the trackable version which was a hunter green. Mom and Lisa also got a couple things including a lanyard for Chelsea.

We decided to get something to eat before we headed off in search for caches and I bumped into Cheshire Cacher, a girl I had class with last semester. So we had food, visited a little and then headed back to the car.

This is when we figured out neither GPS was working for us. Until this point, we didn’t have much use for them. I kept getting an error message on mine that indicated it wasn’t going to find satellites – period. Mom’s unit would get a signal at the fairgrounds, but once we headed out of the fairgrounds it was gone.

Well, that didn’t do much good for us and we ended up just heading back to the fairgrounds to wander

Chelsea gets a butterfly balloon from the clown.

through the vendors a bit more and then meet up with some friends. We stuck together for a while visiting the vendors again, we saw Signal and wanted pictures but they were in a rush to get Signal back to their base for a break and change-over. Then Chelsea visited the clown who made her a butterfly balloon.

We all went back to the car thinking we would head home. Then I got a text that Mr. and Mrs. BlackBrownDog were there and wandering around and I didn’t want to leave without seeing them. The heat was starting to get to Lisa and Chelsea so they stayed at the car while mom wandered the parking area with Vixen looking for travel bugs on vehicles. I headed back in to meet up with Mr. and Mrs. BlackBrownDog before we wrapped up our day and headed back to camp in Conneaut, OH. Overall, it wasn’t terribly exciting, but we did have some fun (as well as frustration). There may be some plans in the near future to visit the Bash in Wauseon, OH so I’m looking forward to that for some comparison
