Three geocache attempts. Three DNFs. Seriously?
Maybe we didn’t try hard enough. That’s about the only thing I could come up with. However, we WERE trying to cache in a foot and a half of snow!
My friend, Rigits88, and I attempted some caching today and started out with a virtual. I was looking forward to it because it was one she had already completed and said it was awesome. With the rock garden under a foot and a half of snow, we took some pictures and I decided a DNF was in order because I just couldn’t find what I needed to unless I cleared the snow from EVERYTHING. Yes I’m a pansy, and I don’t care.
After that, we decided to try a cache she had loaded into her GPSr. In driving to caches, I manage to get myself into some sticky situations. This time I headed down a “street” called “Winter Drive.” I realized it was someone’s personal “Winter DriveWAY” when backing down their regular drive I got my car sliding backward all the way down and onto a main highway.
It didn’t turn out bad, but we drove around to where we were within 60 or so feet of the cache and parked it. We walked circles in someone’s front yard and then realized maybe it was inactive because it wasn’t in my pocket query and she had entered it into her unit a couple months prior. Fabulous. Those people are going to come home and wonder what the heck happened to their yard, haha.
Then for our final attempt, we ended up in a cemetery. Again, everything was under a foot and a half of snow. Full headstones were lost in the great white stuff and I just kept walking in circles feeling defeated. I took some more pictures and we just decided to call it a day. I used one of the cemetery pictures as my 13/365. The others displayed here were too fun to not share so enjoy!
Well at least you got some great picture opportunities!
Yes, I suppose that’s one nice thing about this kind of weather…it changes things up from time to time
So all that work and no caches???
Something I’ve always done in crap weather — always find a park and grab you can at least get to have one find for the day!
Yes, we didn’t expect that virtual to be such a problem though! I don’t ever actually plan my geocaching days either so that doesn’t help matters, haha.
Did you have fun???? If so, it was all worth it anyway!
The first picture of you on the park bench(?) is impressive! I just don’t know what it is to experience extreme weather like that.
Annie
I had a blast taking the pictures — even if the geocaching wasn’t successful! And I’m with Team-Ducky on this one…this was hardly “extreme” weather, haha. It was actually a very nice day!
LOL!!!! ANY snow would be extreme weather to me!!!
Still – it looks beautiful and I plan to go and find some come winter here!
Sorry to hear about the 0/3 day. That would have peeved us off. I hate to end a day with more DNFs than caches. Great photos, though.
Annie, I snorted in laugher when I read your comment. “extreme weather” HA. That isn’t extreme weather for us. The sun was out. Windchill was above zero. No freezing rain or hurricane/tornado winds. No drifts up to her chest.
Those would be “extreme weather.”
(and no, I wouldn’t cache in any of that… I’m a fool, not an idiot.)
Yes, at least I came out with some fun pictures to share
Still, it would have been nice to have had ONE find. Oh well!
At least you had fun and got super pics!
I always have fun when I’m out geocaching…even if I don’t find what I’m looking for
