What a trip! The road trip was awesome, but once ErikaJean and I got to Arizona we were busy every day. She would work and then pick me up from the hotel shortly after. I think we geocached every day I was in town. Some days, the temperatures were triple digits and not necessarily fun (or safe!) so we would go with fewer finds.
Almost every day after geocaching, we jumped in the pool to cool ourselves. It is monsoon season in Arizona so you had to be conscious that the weather could change at any moment, but swimming wasn’t usually a problem.
While geocaching this week, we went to Saguaro National Park and Catalina State Park. Saguaro was BEAUTIFUL! It was basically a forest of cacti up in the mountains, and I just couldn’t get over how pretty it was.
Catalina was really nice too. I had originally planned to camp there in my tent because it was only $15/night vs. the $45/night in the hotel, but I’m glad I didn’t. Just being out there for the few hours the one day was a lot. Plus, we attempted a geocache there that was a 1.5 terrain and we definitely made it a 2.5 terrain. Read the log on that one here.
Overall, the trip was great. Today, we went horse back riding first thing. We ended up being the last ride for the day because temps were already near 100 degrees when we arrived at 8:30 a.m. The ride was fun, but I didn’t get the pictures I thought I would because it was so dusty out there. We didn’t really take any picture breaks, but we did get some.
Shortly after the horses, we decided against geocaching and chose to see a movie instead. We caught the matinee price to see My Sister’s Keeper. It was a good movie and while I don’t really cry over movies, I cried over this one. It was just so sad!
Then, we mostly sat around waiting. We went and did ONE geocache and then decided no more. It was nearing 108 degrees at that point (ErikaJean’s car was reading 120 degrees for the outside temp lol!). IHOP was next on our list and we sat there for a while, got something small and hung out. I was waiting on a call from GeoBlack_Cat. She agreed to take me to the airport so ErikaJean could go home.
When I finally got her call, we met up at Target near where we were and then headed out for a geocaching event. The event was a fairwell to local cacher Daniel_Boone. We got two geocaches that were in the park and then I had to get on my way to the airport for my flight.
Now, I’m in Atlanta on my layover. Two and a half hours, and then I’m on my way to Dayton. It’ll be nice to sleep in my bed for a couple nights, but then I’m on my way to Mount Rushmore. My friend from Minneapolis already called me with an “emergency” about the trip, but more on that later. I’ve got to finish this trip first!
Sounds like you had a lot of fun.
So did you go after the virtual at the Atlanta Airport?
GCGFDE
It's a virtual that is right outside the main entrance of the airport. Supposed to be an easy one if you have a long layover there. Of course…if you know about it.
I only know about it from the potential plans I had for flying to and from Geowoodstock VII.
Nice post! it WAS indeed hot! I want to know about the emergency….
I had a lot of fun! thanks for coming with me!!!
OMG about the 100+ degree temps!!!! i couldn't live there so kuddos to erika!!!!!
@Tripcyclone Didn't know about the virtual at Atlanta's airport. Good to know for next time I'm there
@Erika I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
@Basebell You think you couldn't live there until you've been there and see it. OMG! Gorgeous! I'd tolerate the heat to live there…
